Unity State in South Sudan has a history of bad news since independence in 2011, but this year, the Roman Catholic Church surprised the people by creating the Diocese of Bentiu. The local authorities and congregation welcomed this announcement, with Governor Riak Bim Top allocating land near Ariab for the diocese.
The newly appointed Bishop Christian Carlassare is known for his successful modernization of the Rumbek Diocese, including establishing a radio station, hospital, and school. Despite surviving an assassination attempt in 2022, Bishop Carlassare is now leading the Bentiu Diocese, offering hope for positive change in the region.
With Unity State facing challenges like flooding and violence, Bishop Carlassare’s leadership is eagerly anticipated. As a member of the Catholic Church in Unity State, I look forward to the impact he will make, following God’s plan as stated in Jeremiah 29:11.
As Bishop Carlassare enters a region where the Nuer language is prominent, his efforts to integrate and uplift the community are crucial. I, along with others, celebrate the milestone of the Diocese of Bentiu and welcome Bishop Carlassare with hope and expectation.
