The Presidency affirmed that Nigerians have the right to engage in peaceful protests and emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to serving the people, not dominating them. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, stated that no one in the administration has the authority to prevent citizens from protesting.
Ngelale addressed concerns about potential protest hijacking and highlighted the government’s efforts to improve the country’s economic situation. Despite facing economic challenges, the administration is implementing short, medium, and long-term strategies to enhance living standards.
He pointed out various initiatives aimed at promoting economic growth, such as reconstruction projects, social investment programs, and efforts to attract foreign investment. Ngelale urged for patience, emphasizing that development takes time.
The spokesperson also mentioned the recent Supreme Court judgment granting fiscal autonomy to local government councils as a form of restructuring in practice. Overall, the government is focused on creating a prosperous future for Nigeria through strategic policies and programs.
