Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, urged his constituents, Abia State residents, and the South East zone not to participate in the planned nationwide protest, emphasizing its counter-productive nature. He stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government is addressing region-specific challenges, evident through the assent given to the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill.
Speaking to stakeholders of the APC in Bende Federal Constituency, Kalu advised patience with the government’s positive policies. He highlighted the significance of the SEDC bill in addressing the Igbo community’s needs, emphasizing President Tinubu’s commitment to Ndi Igbo.
Kalu emphasized the importance of sustaining peace and the rejection of protests in reciprocation of the President’s gestures. He urged leaders to show benevolence during crucial times and promoted unity and humanity in nation-building efforts.
Cautioning against the repercussions of protest, Kalu advocated for lobbying and non-violent means to achieve desired objectives, citing the success of similar approaches in the past. He reassured his commitment to representing and advocating for the Igbo community.
