Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Threatens to Extend Rawalpindi Sit-in Nationwide
In a recent development, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman warned of expanding the ongoing Rawalpindi sit-in across Pakistan, citing the government’s failure to address the public’s grievances.
During the sit-in, Rehman criticized the government for neglecting the basic needs of the common people and favoring a select few through opaque agreements and policies. He demanded a transparent audit of Independent Power Producers (IPPs) deals and highlighted the struggle faced by ordinary citizens in paying bills and rent.
Previously, the JI accepted the government’s offer for talks but insisted on the release of its arrested workers first. Despite the willingness to engage in negotiations, the JI chief reiterated that there would be no compromise on their demands.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman warned that the sit-in could continue for months if the government fails to address their concerns, signaling a prolonged protest until their grievances are addressed.
