Chris Minns, NSW Premier, to announce new ‘no grounds’ eviction laws

Protecting Renter Rights: Landlords Face Eviction Restrictions in NSW

Landlords in NSW will soon be required to have “reasonable grounds” for evicting tenants under new laws aimed at protecting renter rights, set to be unveiled by Premier Chris Minns at the NSW State Labor Conference.

These reforms will require landlords to provide “commonsense” and “reasonable” cause for termination notices, ensuring evidence is included or face penalties. Additionally, the notice period for ending periodic leases will be extended to 90 days.

Minns emphasized that these changes aim to bring certainty and peace of mind to both homeowners and renters, alleviating the anxiety and challenges faced by renters in the current market.
