The latest updates from the 8•18 Democratic Party of Korea National Convention reveal that candidate Lee Jae-myung continues to lead the race with overwhelming support, even in regions considered strongholds of his opponent, Kim Du-kwan.
In recent regional elections in Chungcheongnam and Chungcheongbuk provinces, Lee won 88.9% of the vote, while Kim Du-kwan and Kim Ji-soo received single-digit support. These results follow Lee’s victory with 87.2% of the vote in the Gyeongnam region against Kim Du-kwan, who managed only 11.7% support.
In the election for party executives, candidate Kim Min-seok has surged ahead, surpassing previous leader Jung Bong-ju with consecutive wins. Kim Min-seok secured 20.7% of the vote in Chungcheongnam and Chungcheongbuk, surpassing Jung, who received 17.0% support.
With Kim Min-seok garnering stronger support due to strategic backing from pro-Lee Jae-myung factions, the race for Democratic Party leadership continues to intensify.
