Ariarne Titmus, known as “The Terminator,” successfully defended her 400-metre freestyle title at the Paris Olympics, beating USA’s Katie Ledecky in a thrilling race. The Australian swimmer led from start to finish, finishing comfortably in 3:57.49.
TItmus expressed her relief at handling the pressure of the race and showed respect for Ledecky as an athlete and a person. Canada’s Summer McIntosh took the silver, while Ledecky settled for bronze.
In the men’s 400-metre freestyle, Lukas Maertens of Germany claimed his first Olympic gold, setting a winning time of 3:41.78. Maertens’ victory marked the first German win in this event since 1988.
Additionally, Australia set an Olympic record in the women’s 4×100-metre freestyle relay, securing their fourth straight Olympic title. The USA took silver in the same event.
The US team, led by Caeleb Dressel, also won gold in the men’s 4×100-metre freestyle relay, continuing their dominance in the event.
