Parents in Kerala commit suicide due to son’s drug addiction

An elderly couple in Pathanamthitta tragically ended their lives by setting themselves on fire inside their car, unable to cope with their son’s drug addiction. The bodies of Raju Thomas George (69) and Laigy Thomas (63) were discovered charred in their vehicle, leaving a note behind expressing their despair over their son’s situation.

The couple, residents of Thiruvalla, had their son admitted to a rehabilitation center in Idukki District but felt overwhelmed by the challenges of his addiction. A suicide note addressed to the police requested their son’s transfer to a government facility for treatment, while also directing their assets to their daughter-in-law and granddaughter.

Raju had returned to his hometown after years of working abroad, only to face this tragic end. The community was shocked by the incident, highlighting the devastating impact of addiction on families.

Authorities are investigating the case further, while the daughter-in-law and granddaughter, who had distanced themselves from the son’s addiction, are left to grapple with the aftermath of this heartbreaking event.
