The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) is taking proactive steps to protect the environment and promote the well-being of communities in the southern senatorial district of Ondo State. By clearing waterways and removing hyacinths, the Commission aims to enhance economic activities and ensure the safety of residents in Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Councils.

Secretary of the Commission, Abike Bayo-Ilawole, highlighted the significance of this exercise in improving navigation and preventing flooding in the region. She emphasized the approval of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for this initiative, which will facilitate water transport and boost the overall ecosystem.

Local stakeholders, including the Oloja of Oke-Pare and Alape and Alape Youth Leader, have expressed their support for the project, recognizing the positive impact on fishing activities and navigation. They call for continued collaboration and assistance to ensure the successful removal of water hyacinths from the waterways.
