Renaissance Care and Empowerment Foundation (RECEF Nigeria), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has sounded the alarm on a potential epidemic looming in Kogi state due to overflowing refuse dumps across the region.
Expressing deep concerns, Mr. Idris Muraina, the Executive Director, highlighted the deteriorating state of cleanliness and waste management, particularly in Lokoja metropolis.
Despite the ‘Operation Clean the City’ initiative launched this year by the environment ministry, the situation has worsened, posing significant health risks to residents.
RECEF Nigeria called on Governor Usman Ododo to prompt the authorities to address the mounting refuse dumps swiftly, underscoring the urgency to prevent potential diseases and environmental hazards.
Muraina emphasized the need for immediate action, urging responsible agencies to engage stakeholders and implement effective strategies to restore cleanliness in the city.
While the Environment Commissioner assured stringent measures to tackle the issue, RECEF Nigeria pledged support to collaborate with the government for a cleaner, healthier environment in Kogi.
