Mexican Soldiers Deployed to Sinaloa After Cartel Leader’s Arrest
The Mexican National Defense Ministry has sent 200 elite soldiers to Sinaloa following the arrest of the Sinaloa Cartel leader Ismael Zambada. The troops, from Mexico’s Special Forces Corps, are deployed to strengthen security in the wake of recent arrests of cartel leaders in the US.
After the arrest of Zambada and Ovidio Guzman, son of “Chapo” Guzman, criminal groups, especially the Sinaloa Cartel, have responded with violence in the past. The recent deployment aims to prevent further attacks and maintain peace in the region.
Zambada faces criminal charges related to organized crime, money laundering, and drug trafficking. The Sinaloa Cartel is accused of being a major supplier of fentanyl to the US. Despite pleas of non-guilty, Zambada is scheduled for a second hearing on July 31.
