Russian authorities have denied any plans for a new wave of mobilization in support of the Ukraine campaign, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. In an interview with RIA Novosti, Peskov emphasized that mobilization is not on the agenda, despite rumors circulating in Western media.
Previously, Russia announced a partial mobilization in September 2022, calling up 300,000 soldiers to man the front line in Ukraine. However, officials in Moscow have reiterated that there is currently no need for a new draft campaign.
President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia is focusing on gradually pushing out Ukrainian troops and that the military continuously receives patriotic volunteers. The Defense Ministry reported an increase in contract soldiers in 2024, with an estimated 1,000 people signing contracts daily. Putin also revealed that around 700,000 soldiers are operating in the military operation zone.
Overall, the Russian government is maintaining its stance against mobilization, opting instead for strategic military tactics and an influx of contract soldiers.
