Adverse Weather Hampers Rescue Efforts in Uttara Kannada Landslide
Despite ongoing adverse weather conditions, rescue operations in a village in Shirur, Ankola taluk, Uttara Kannada, following a deadly landslide on July 16, have been hindered. The disaster claimed the lives of at least eight people, with three still missing.
Local officials revealed that the presence of a minister and MLAs from Kerala has heightened the pressure on rescue operations. The Karnataka government is under significant strain to locate Arjun, a truck driver from Kerala, whose last GPS location was the accident site.
Following a visit to the site by Kerala Public Works Minister P A Mohammed Riyas, the district administration shifted its focus to land search operations after allegations from Kerala government officials. Minister Mankal Vaidya emphasized the humanitarian aspect of the rescue mission, stating that all missing individuals are equally important.
The collaborative effort between Karnataka and Kerala authorities continues to navigate challenges as they strive to locate the remaining missing persons and address the aftermath of the devastating landslide.
