The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has accepted the government’s offer to engage in talks to address the issues of inflation and other concerns at their sit-in protest. The government delegation, headed by Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, met with JI’s delegation led by Liaquat Baloch to discuss the conditions for negotiations.
Initially, the JI had demanded the release of their arrested workers before agreeing to talks. While they agreed to participate in negotiations, they declined the government’s request to end the sit-in immediately. Both parties are set to start discussions on Sunday with the specifics to be determined later.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the JI Ameer, emphasized that they will not back down from their demands during the talks. He called for action against Independent Power Producers (IPPs) involved in misconduct and requested a forensic audit of the IPPs. The JI chief warned that their protest could continue for months if their demands are not met.
