Government forms JIT to investigate chaos and disorder through social media campaigns

The federal government has established a Joint Investigation Committee (JIT) to look into the individuals responsible for spreading “chaos and disorder” in the country through malicious social media campaigns. This development follows recent actions taken by the interior ministry to investigate potential anti-state propaganda, although the notification does not specifically mention the party involved.

PTI information secretary Raoof Hasan was arrested in connection with the probe, which included charges under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016. The JIT will be spearheaded by Islamabad Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi and a team of experts from various law enforcement agencies.

The committee’s main objective is to identify and prosecute those behind the organized social media campaigns that have disrupted peace in the country. The JIT will operate under the authority granted by Peca to investigate and tackle offenses related to cybercrime and electronic forgery.

As the investigation continues, the JIT will work diligently to bring those responsible for spreading chaos and disorder through social media to justice.
