Border surveillance increases in response to increased immigration

The Nigeria Immigration Service under the leadership of Comptroller-General Mrs. Kemi Nandap is gearing up to intensify surveillance at the borders in response to calls for a nationwide protest from August 1 – 10, 2024. Nandap has directed all personnel to suspend leave applications and ensure the security of the nation’s gateways during this period.

In a statement released by the service’s public relations officer, Mr. Kenneth Udo, it was emphasized that officers must demonstrate professionalism and patriotism to prevent any foreign interference in the protest. The aim is to secure Nigeria’s borders and safeguard national security.

The planned protest takes inspiration from recent demonstrations in Kenya and historical protests in Nigeria against police brutality. Social media has played a crucial role in mobilizing young people for these movements, highlighting the power of digital platforms in organizing mass actions.

As the country braces for potential unrest, the Nigeria Immigration Service is committed to upholding its duty to protect the nation and ensure the safety of its citizens.
