Russian Ex-Deputy Defense Minister Detained in Corruption Probe

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained former Deputy Defense Minister Dmitry Bulgakov as part of a corruption investigation. Bulgakov, who oversaw logistical support for the Russian army for more than a decade, has been put in a pre-trial detention center in Moscow.

The FSB statement mentioned an initiated criminal corruption case against Bulgakov to establish the causes of illegal activities, but did not specify the exact allegations. Bulgakov was recognized for his role in constructing a railway bypassing Ukraine and organizing logistics for the Russian military in Syria.

In September 2022, Bulgakov was reassigned from his post during the Ukraine conflict, and later became the inspector general of the Defense Ministry. This detention follows a series of arrests of senior military officials on corruption charges, including Vadim Shamarin, Timur Ivanov, Yury Kuznetsov, and Ivan Popov.

The recent changes in the Defense Ministry leadership, with the appointment of Andrey Belousov as Defense Minister, have been linked to these corruption investigations. Stay updated with RT News for more on this developing story.
