Delayed Financial Assistance for Women in Karnataka Causes Concern
Many eligible women in Karnataka have not received the Rs 2,000 financial assistance under the Gruhalakshmi scheme for June and July. Around 1.23 crore women registered for the scheme from August 30, 2023, to March 28, 2024, with 1.20 crore already receiving the aid till May.
Officials from the Department of Women and Child Development have cited a delay in getting the budget for June and July, assuring that funds will be released once received from the government. While the wait continues, beneficiaries like Radha, a widow, and Susheela, a homemaker, share how the scheme has helped them manage their expenses and fulfill their needs.
Despite concerns during the Lok Sabha elections, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had pledged to continue the guarantee schemes for their full term. The women hope for the uninterrupted continuation of the Gruhalakshmi scheme to sustain their financial independence and meet their daily needs.
