US detains relatives of Israeli captives for Netanyahu rally

Six family members of Israeli captives were detained by US authorities for protesting during Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the US Congress. Wearing yellow shirts with the words “Seal the deal NOW”, they now face a US court hearing in August. Israel’s embassy in Washington is involved in the situation.

The group includes bereaved relatives and those connected to captives believed to still be in Gaza. Despite a bi-partisan welcome at Congress, Netanyahu’s divisive figure has clashed publicly with Gaza captives’ families during the 10-month war.

Protests also occurred in Tel Aviv, with demands for a ceasefire deal to bring captives home. Talya Dancyg, granddaughter of deceased captive Alex Dancyg, spoke out, expressing her grandfather’s hope for rescue. She called on Netanyahu to “seal the deal” just two days after his death was announced.
