In a recent development, the United Arab Emirates has proposed a “temporary international mission” to address the humanitarian crisis and restore order in post-war Gaza. This suggestion comes after Arab leaders called for the deployment of UN peacekeepers in the occupied Palestinian territories, a move strongly opposed by Israel.
UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem al-Hashimy emphasized the need for an international mission to respond to the humanitarian crisis, establish law and order, and reunite Gaza with the West Bank under a legitimate Palestinian Authority. The proposal also includes the participation of Arab and international partners in stabilizing the region.
While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not disclosed his plans for post-war Gaza, the United States has expressed support for a reformed Palestinian Authority to govern the area instead of Israel or Hamas. The Palestinian Authority currently has limited authority in the West Bank and no presence in Gaza since Hamas took control in 2007.
