A curious sight has emerged in North Korea’s city of Hyesan: satellite images reveal dozens of vehicles at two locations, with 30 identical white cars conspicuously parked at a local expedition camp. A recent report indicates that used cars imported into North Korea are predominantly white.

The vehicles at the camp are believed to be recently imported used cars, while the cars in front of the Kim Jung-sook Arts Center appear to have been smuggled into the country with the government’s approval.

Authorities take around 15 days to inspect and approve these vehicles, regulating illegal materials and ensuring proper documentation before they can be sold. Recently, there has been a decline in the number of parked vehicles due to government investigations and a decrease in illegal imports.

As the supply of vehicles diminishes, trading companies and individuals are anticipating an increase in prices and quicker sales. The North Korean government’s efforts to curb illegal imports are influencing the market dynamics in the country.
