South African Police Detain 95 Libyans on Suspicion of Military Training

South African police have detained 95 Libyan nationals for questioning after a raid on a suspected secret military camp in Mpumalanga province. The Libyans entered the country on study visas to train as security guards but are suspected of receiving military training.

The police, led by spokesman Donald Mdhluli, seized the alleged military camp on a farm in White River. While initially thought to be a training site for a security company, it was revealed to be a military base. The operation began two days prior, with heavy police presence surrounding the camp.

Despite ongoing conflicts in Libya, it remains unclear if the detained individuals are affiliated with any group. Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi emphasized the seriousness of the situation, but assured there is currently no immediate threat to community safety as the investigation proceeds.
