Political Protests Shake Up Islamabad Despite Section 144
The streets of Islamabad were buzzing with political tension as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) had planned protests despite the imposition of Section 144. While the PTI’s protest was postponed due to the restriction, the JI went ahead with their plan, resulting in multiple arrests by the capital police.
Section 144 had been enforced in Islamabad and Punjab, prohibiting any form of demonstrations. However, the JI persisted with their sit-in at D-Chowk, highlighting issues like price hikes and power bills. Meanwhile, the PTI’s protest was rescheduled for Monday following the Islamabad High Court’s intervention.
The legal battle over protests continued as the IHC suggested permitting the PTI to protest on July 29 amid concerns about law and order. The government’s reluctance to sanction future protests led to a heated exchange in court, reflecting the growing political unrest in the capital.
Despite the legal hurdles, both parties remained determined to express their grievances, setting the stage for further confrontations in the days to come.
