After ten months of Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas signed an agreement in Beijing, under China’s auspices, to end the divisions. The agreement aims to establish an “interim national reconciliation government” responsible for unifying Palestinian institutions in the West Bank and Gaza. Despite previous failed agreements over the years, the factions also agreed to confront Israeli aggression with US support.
However, Palestinian analysts remain doubtful about the success of the Beijing agreement, citing lack of implementation details, ambiguous timelines, and unresolved ideological and political differences between Fatah and Hamas. Past experiences show similar agreements have faltered, raising concerns about the feasibility of this latest unity effort.
Palestinians in Gaza are skeptical of false promises of reconciliation, disillusioned by ongoing blame games and political power struggles between Fatah and Hamas. The hope for an independent Palestinian government, free from the influence of both factions, remains strong among the war-weary population.
