Romania reported the discovery of Russian drone fragments on its soil, following a night in which Moscow’s troops launched 38 long-range drones at Ukraine. The Air Force of Ukraine successfully destroyed 25 of these drones, with three crossing into Romanian territory before being taken down.
Part of a Russian Geran 1/2 unmanned aerial vehicle was found near the village of Plauru, across the Danube River from the Ukrainian city of Izmail. A video circulating on social media shows a Romanian drone being shot down by the German Gepard anti-aircraft system.
NATO stated that there was no evidence of a deliberate attack on alliance territory. Finnish F-18 fighter jets, deployed as part of NATO’s aerial surveillance in Romania, monitored the situation. Fortunately, all drones fell outside residential areas, causing no damage to infrastructure.
Romania has been on alert due to repeated instances of Russian drones entering its airspace. While tensions escalate in Ukraine, NATO condemns such actions as irresponsible and dangerous.
