Mzamo Buthelezi named Inkosi of Buthelezi clan

Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi finally received recognition as the Inkosi of the Buthelezi clan in a ceremony packed with government officials, traditional leaders, and local residents. The event, held at Mbongombongweni royal palace, marked a bittersweet moment for Buthelezi, as he missed the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s presence.

After a 20-year wait and a delay due to Covid-19, Buthelezi expressed mixed emotions about the occasion, stating that it would have been more fulfilling if Prince Mangosuthu had been there to see him installed. King Misuzulu KaZwelithini, who crowned Buthelezi, also acknowledged the late Prince’s influence on his life and the Zulu royal house.

Despite his role as the deputy president of the IFP, Buthelezi emphasized the importance of traditional leaders maintaining their dignity and not allowing the government to overshadow them. He called on KwaZulu-Natal premier Thami Ntuli to lead by example in respecting traditional leadership.

During the ceremony, Buthelezi presented gifts of appreciation, including cows and sheep, to dignitaries in attendance. The event served as a reminder of the rich history and bonds within the Buthelezi clan and traditional leadership.
