IOM and Global Fund donate M medical equipment to Yemen’s health system.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MoPHP) and the Global Fund, recently launched a significant initiative to strengthen Yemen’s healthcare system. With the delivery of essential medical equipment, including advanced technology like AI-equipped X-ray machines, blood gas machines, and ventilators, the country’s healthcare infrastructure is poised for improvement.

Yemen faces a severe health crisis, with millions in need of healthcare assistance and half of the hospitals struggling to meet operational standards. The Global Fund’s Middle East Response Phase 3 (MER 3) programme, operating in Yemen and other countries in the region, focuses on combatting diseases like HIV, TB, and malaria amidst ongoing conflicts and humanitarian crises.

Through collaborative efforts, significant milestones have been achieved, such as reduced malaria cases and improved TB care. In 2023 alone, IOM’s Global Fund activities in Yemen reached millions through disease management and prevention initiatives, highlighting the positive impact on vulnerable populations.

The medical equipment provided, valued at USD 2 million, will be distributed to healthcare facilities nationwide, emphasizing the support for patients in critical condition. These advancements are expected to enhance treatment precision, diagnosis accuracy, and overall healthcare outcomes for the people of Yemen.
