The Journey of Indian Students: Erasmus Mundus Scholarships and Global Opportunities
Abhishek Kumar, a former Indian government and Central Bank of India employee, embarked on a new path in pursuit of an international career after securing a scholarship in the EU’s Erasmus Mundus Joint master’s degree program. Leaving Mumbai, Kumar delved into financial journalism at City, University of London, expanding his horizons while enjoying the top-notch education and diverse perspectives offered by studying in Europe.
Reflecting a growing trend, Indian students have been excelling in securing Erasmus Mundus scholarships, with 146 recipients in 2024 alone. This significant number reaffirms India’s position as the largest beneficiary of the program, highlighting the country’s academic prowess and global aspirations.
The EU’s commitment to fostering academic and cultural exchange through programs like Erasmus+ opens doors for students worldwide, with over 6,000 scholarships awarded to Indian students since 2004. In June, Herve Delphin, the EU Ambassador to India, praised Indian scholars for their achievements and emphasized the lasting impact of studying in Europe.
As Indian students seize international opportunities, collaborations between the EU and India continue to thrive, creating pathways for mutual growth and knowledge exchange. Through programs like Erasmus Mundus and initiatives under the EU’s Indo-Pacific strategy, Indian students are poised to make a global impact, bridging cultures and nurturing academic excellence.
