Germany infringes on human rights by shutting down Islamic center: NGO

An Iran-based international NGO, the Ahl Al-Bayt World Assembly, strongly condemns Germany’s closure of the Islamic Center Hamburg (IZH) as a violation of international treaties and human rights. The German Interior Ministry banned the center for promoting what it called “Islamist-extremist, totalitarian ideology,” leading to searches in 53 premises in eight German states.

The NGO emphasizes the importance of the IZH as a religious, scientific, and cultural center that has promoted dialogue and peaceful coexistence for over 60 years. It criticizes the baseless charges of extremism against the center, which has been a barrier against extremism and religious conflicts. The NGO expresses concern over the impact of shutting down such a center on social cohesion and coexistence in Germany.

The Ahl Al-Bayt World Assembly calls on the German government to protect the rights of Muslims and prevent illegal moves that could fuel violence and Islamophobia. It urges international authorities, such as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, to intervene to safeguard human rights worldwide.
