The Sudanese Ministry of Health Launches Emergency Project to Revive Hospitals
The Sudanese Ministry of Health recently inaugurated an emergency project with the goal of revitalizing operations at 40 hospitals across Sudan, as part of an initiative to enhance healthcare services in the country. The project was officially launched in Port Sudan and will target 10 Sudanese states in its initial phase.
Medical equipment and devices have already been delivered to Port Sudan Emergency Hospital, with plans to sequentially extend operations to other states. Health Minister Haitham Mohammed Ibrahim emphasized the commitment to fully restore all hospitals in Sudan, which currently stands at around 540 facilities managed by federal and state health ministries.
The project, funded by the European Union, the World Health Organization, and other partners, aims to address the urgent need for healthcare services following the destruction caused by ongoing warfare in the region. Over 80 percent of health facilities in Sudan are currently non-operational due to the conflict, leading to overcrowding in hospitals and challenges in providing adequate care to patients.
