A recent ruling by the High Court in Rivers State has put a stop to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) conducting any congress in the state. The court granted this order based on an ex parte motion filed by 21 party members in the state, including Ilaye Sunday Kitchen and Agile Handsome Ekelechi.
The plaintiffs brought the party’s leadership, including the Chairman, National Secretary, and other officials, to court to halt the national leadership from conducting any congress in the state. Justice Wali issued an interim injunction to prevent the party from holding any ward, local government, or state congresses on specific dates in Rivers State.
The case has been adjourned to August 1, 2024, for further proceedings. The ruling has caused a stir within the PDP in Rivers State, with implications for the party’s internal affairs and leadership structure.
