Australia Imposes Sanctions on Jewish Settlers for Violent Crimes in West Bank
Australia has imposed financial sanctions and travel bans on seven Jewish settlers and a youth group for violent crimes against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. Foreign Minister Penny Wong described the sanctions as “Magnitsky-style” and emphasized that those sanctioned have been involved in violent attacks resulting in serious injury and death. She called on Israel to hold perpetrators of settler violence accountable and to cease settlement activities to support a two-state solution.
US and Canada Join Sanctions
Last month, both the US and Canada announced sanctions against Israeli settlers for extremist violence against Palestinian civilians. The move reflects a growing international effort to address unlawful Israeli settlements. The International Court of Justice has recently ruled Israel’s presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory as unlawful and called for an end to new settlement activities.
