Australia, Canada, NZ urge immediate Gaza ceasefire

Australia, Canada, and New Zealand are urging for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza, calling the situation “catastrophic.” The three nations condemned the recent attack by Palestinian resistance group Hamas and stressed the need for Israel to listen to the international community’s concerns.

The joint statement emphasized the protection of civilians as a top priority, demanding a sustained increase in humanitarian assistance for Gaza. They also called for Hamas to disarm and release all hostages, asserting that Hamas has no role in the future governance of Gaza.

The nations expressed concern over the escalation on the Lebanon border, warning of the dangers posed to civilians in both Lebanon and Israel. Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza has led to a high number of Palestinian casualties, with thousands of women and children among the victims.

The statement came following the signing of the Beijing Declaration by 14 Palestinian groups, signaling an agreement to form an interim government for post-war Gaza.
