Typhoon Gaemi, also known as Carina in the Philippines, has caused devastation in the region, impacting Taiwan and the Philippines severely. The typhoon claimed at least 25 lives, with damage including flooding, landslides, and shipwrecks. Gaemi is now heading towards mainland China, threatening more destruction in its path.
In the Philippines, heavy rain and monsoon conditions exacerbated by the typhoon led to flash floods and landslides, resulting in the death of 22 individuals. A cargo ship and an oil tanker sank in rough seas, with efforts underway to contain an oil spill heading towards Manila.
Schools, offices, and transportation services remained disrupted in Taiwan as the country assessed the extent of damage caused by Gaemi. With winds of up to 140km/h, the typhoon remains a force to be reckoned with as it moves towards China, prompting emergency responses and cancellations.
