The Senate has announced its intention to intervene in the dispute between regulators in the oil sector and Alhaji Aliko Dangote to facilitate the launch of the Dangote refinery. A special committee has been formed to investigate sabotage in the petroleum industry over the past decade, with public hearings scheduled to begin on September 10, 2024.
The committee’s focus will include examining the practices of regulatory authorities, such as the NMPDRA and NNPCL, to identify loopholes in the importation of toxic cargoes. Additionally, it will investigate the transparency of the DSP arrangements in the oil sector and the operations of key entities like the NMDPRA and NIMASA.
The committee will engage with various stakeholders, including government officials, industry organizations, and regulatory bodies, to understand the challenges in the oil sector and hold accountable those responsible for substandard practices. Public input will be solicited through memoranda submissions to ensure transparency and broad participation in the investigation.
