New subcommittee to probe Oct 7 in Knesset

The Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee has taken a significant step by establishing a subcommittee to oversee the IDF’s internal investigations into the handling of the Hamas massacre on October 7. This move comes in the absence of a National Committee of Investigation and aims to ensure transparency and accountability within the military.

Chairman MK Yuli Edelstein emphasized the need for a National Committee of Investigation but highlighted the importance of the subcommittee’s role in the interim. The subcommittee will have the authority to summon relevant officials and review all investigative reports related to the incident.

Members of the committee include a diverse group of MKs representing various political parties, indicating a bipartisan effort towards ensuring thorough investigations. The subcommittee’s formation coincides with the IDF’s release of its initial investigation report and sets the stage for future examinations of similar incidents.
