Harris narrowly ahead of Trump in post-Biden poll

In a recent poll conducted after President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris is shown to be slightly ahead of former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical general election match-up. The New York Times/Siena College survey revealed that Trump leads Harris by just one percentage point among likely voters and two percentage points among registered voters.

The race has significantly tightened since Democrats changed their nominee, as a previous poll in July had Trump leading Biden by 6 points. Harris now holds a 10-point lead over Trump among voters aged 45 and younger, a demographic Trump previously had the advantage in.

According to the survey, 79% of Democratic voters prefer Harris as the nominee, while 27% believe there should be a competitive process to select a new nominee. Respondents also approved of Biden’s decision to drop out of the race, with 45% expressing disapproval of his current job performance.

The poll, conducted from July 22 to 24, had a margin of error of 3.3 percentage points. It highlights a shifting battleground scenario with Harris at the top of the ticket, adding an exciting dynamic to the upcoming election.
