German Foreign Minister Urges China to End Support for Russia in Ukraine War
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock called on China to cease its support for Russia in the ongoing war with Ukraine. Baerbock emphasized China’s duty as a Security Council member to work towards peace and not support the aggressor. She urged the Chinese government to intensify efforts in helping restore peace in Ukraine, highlighting the importance of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba’s discussions in Beijing.
While China has expressed interest in finding a solution to the conflict, Baerbock noted that no progress has been made towards peace. Germany has consistently urged China to play a more active role in diplomatic efforts to end the war. Despite China’s assertion of neutrality, Ukraine insists on implementing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s peace plan, which includes the withdrawal of Russian troops from occupied territories.
Baerbock’s remarks underscore the urgency for China to fulfill its responsibility in the Security Council and actively support peace efforts in Ukraine, rather than siding with Russia.
