Frankfurt Airport halts flights as activists protest near runways.

Frankfurt airport, Germany’s busiest, temporarily suspended flights on Thursday morning after climate activists staged a demonstration near the airport runways. The Last Generation climate activists breached airport security and displayed posters with the message “Oil kills” to demand a global exit from oil, gas, and coal by 2030. The group’s protest campaign has spread across Europe and North America, with disruptions planned in multiple countries.

The airport urged passengers not to travel to the airport during the protest and advised them to check their flight status for updates. This came after similar actions at Germany’s Cologne-Bonn airport, where activists glued themselves to a runway, causing flight suspensions. While authorities foiled similar protests at other European airports, the Last Generation activists successfully made their statement at Frankfurt airport.

As climate change continues to be a pressing issue, activists are using bold tactics to push for immediate action towards a greener future. These protests serve as a reminder of the urgent need for global cooperation in combating climate change.
