First public worker salary increase pending Official Bulletin release

First public worker salary increase pending Official Bulletin release

Public sector employees in Morocco are facing delays in receiving a scheduled 500 dirham increase in their paychecks due to delays in publishing relevant decrees in the Official Gazette. The Ministry of Economy and Finance has confirmed that the approval process for the wage increase has been completed, with the increase expected to take effect in August.

This delay contradicts the social agreement signed between the government, major unions, and other organizations, which promised a net monthly increase of 1,000 dirhams for public sector employees to be paid in two installments. The first installment was set to begin on July 1, 2024, followed by the second installment on July 1, 2025.

Despite the setbacks, employees are hopeful that the wage increase will be implemented soon. The delay serves as a reminder of the complex processes involved in enacting changes in the public sector and the importance of timely publication of official decrees to ensure smooth implementation of policies.
