After an aeroplane crash in Nepal claimed the lives of 18 individuals, the relatives of the victims are still awaiting information from the government and the airline regarding the cause of the tragedy. This incident has shed light on Nepal’s poor air safety record, with nearly 360 deaths in aviation accidents since 2000.
The small jet, operated by Saurya Airlines, crashed during take-off in Kathmandu while en route to Pokhara for maintenance. Sadly, only the captain survived the crash.
Family members expressed frustration over the lack of communication from the airline and authorities. They are demanding answers about the technical issues of the aircraft, the decision to transport so many individuals, and the choice of location for maintenance.
An official investigation has been initiated, and a report is expected within 45 days. This tragedy adds to Nepal’s history of aviation disasters, including a crash in 1992 that killed 167 people and a recent incident where 72 individuals perished in a plane crash in Pokhara.
