Peace negotiations on the war in Ukraine require the involvement of Russia and China, according to Czech President Petr Pavel. While a global peace summit was held in Switzerland, both Moscow and Beijing were absent. Kyiv plans to host a second summit in the future.

Pavel emphasized the necessity of Russia and China’s presence at the negotiating table for successful peace talks, describing the Switzerland summit as a starting point for political negotiations. He highlighted China’s economic significance but mentioned its limited role in peace promotion.

Ukraine’s efforts to engage a broader coalition were discussed, with concerns raised over the disparity in participation between European countries and other Western allies. Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials have held talks with Chinese counterparts affirming China’s commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty.

Both Russia and China were urged to uphold international rules established post-World War II. The Czech president stressed the importance of respecting and improving these rules rather than disregarding them.
