CTSAMVM Reports Delays in Deployment of Necessary Unified Forces Leading to Insecurity in South Sudan
The Ceasefire Transitional Security Arrangement Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) highlighted the delay in the full deployment of the Necessary Unified Forces as a major factor contributing to insecurity in various parts of South Sudan. During the 44th CTSMVM Board Meeting in Juba, Maj. Gen. Yitayal Gelaw Bitew, the Mechanism’s chairperson, emphasized the importance of deploying these forces across the country to prevent conflicts and ensure civilian safety.
Gen. Gelaw specifically mentioned concerns regarding tensions between armed youths and the South Sudan’s People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) in Nasir County, Upper Nile State. The ongoing conflicts in this region require urgent attention and resolution to establish lasting peace.
CTSAMVM also identified logistical deficiencies and the occupation of civilian areas by soldiers during their inspections of training centers and cantonment sites. Additionally, reports of clandestine training and recruitment activities conducted by SSPDF in Central Equatoria State were presented, although limited access hindered further investigation.
It is clear that the full deployment of the Necessary Unified Forces is crucial to maintaining peace and stability in South Sudan, and CTSAMVM will continue to monitor and address security concerns in the region.
