The Unity State government, in partnership with the national justice ministry and supported by UNMISS’ Rule of Law Department, has introduced a 30-day Mobile Court in Bentiu. This initiative aims to bring justice to the people, as highlighted by Unity State Governor Justice Gen. Riek Biem Tap during the launch. The Mobile Court will address cases of rape, murder, and other minor offenses, addressing a backlog of 34 murder cases, 25 rape cases, and 7 minor cases.
Stephen Simon, a justice of the Court of Appeal, emphasized the importance of resolving these cases promptly. UNMISS, through Kwame Dwamena-Aboagye, the head of the field office in Unity State, has pledged support in reforming the justice sector. The community is encouraged to bring forth their cases for fair resolution.
This collaborative effort between government authorities and international support demonstrates a commitment to upholding justice and ensuring that the rights of individuals are protected. The Mobile Court will play a vital role in delivering justice and restoring peace in the region.
