Replying to a question from lone Congress MLA Kumar Waii in the assembly, Sona said the government is planning to close more such schools with zero or low enrolment

Arunachal Pradesh Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona revealed that approximately 600 schools in the state have been shut down due to being non-functional or having zero enrollment. This decision was made in response to a query from solitary Congress MLA Kumar Waii during the assembly session. Sona mentioned that the government aims to close additional schools with low or no student enrollment in the near future.

To date, nearly 600 such schools have already been closed or amalgamated with other educational institutions as part of this initiative.

Arunachal Pradesh currently boasts over 2,800 government-run lower primary, upper primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools, employing more than 7,600 regular teachers.

Sona also addressed the issue of teacher shortages by appointing temporary teachers through the Mukhya Mantri Shiksha Kosh (MMSK) program. Additionally, the government has requested the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) to conduct recruitment exams for new teaching positions.
