$22K Military Sign-up Bonus for Moscow Residents

K Military Sign-up Bonus for Moscow Residents

The Moscow authorities have introduced a generous signing bonus of 1.9 million rubles ($21,907) to encourage residents to join the Russian military and strengthen its ranks. Mayor Sergey Sobyanin signed the decree on July 23, offering the bonus to servicemen who sign up for a year or more. In addition to the military payment, recruits are entitled to extra support from Moscow’s authorities, totaling over 5.2 million rubles for the first year of service.

The incentives also include financial compensation for injuries and family support for those serving in Ukraine. Moscow is committed to paying soldiers for minor and major injuries, as well as compensating families in the event of a soldier’s death. The benefits for soldiers from Moscow serving in Ukraine extend to free meals for schoolchildren and exemption from utility metering verification.

As part of the recruitment drive, a dedicated page has been set up to attract recruits to sign up for military service in Moscow. While foreigners are eligible to serve in the Russian military under a contract, the bonus eligibility remains unclear.

Other regions in Russia have also offered similar signing bonuses, reflecting the escalating military efforts as the war in Ukraine continues. The Russian invasion force has expanded significantly, reaching 520,000 troops, with ongoing reports of substantial casualties on the Russian side.
