Controversy Surrounding the ‘Like’ Button Clicked by Lee Jin-sook, the Nominee for Chair of the Korea Communications Commission
Lee Jin-sook, the nominee for Chair of the Korea Communications Commission, came under scrutiny during a confirmation hearing on the 24th for liking a post that criticized the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement.
In response to a question from lawmaker Hwang Jeong-ah of the Democratic Party about why she liked a post disparaging the Gwangju Movement, Lee Jin-sook stated that she sometimes clicks ‘like’ without much thought when it comes to acquaintances or those who have helped her in the past.
However, she acknowledged the need to be more careful about liking posts in the future, especially if she is appointed to a public position.
Last year, controversy arose when it was revealed that Lee Jin-sook had liked a post labeling the 5.18 Gwangju Democratization Movement as “agitation by thugs” and exploiting the Gwangju uprising for the benefit of the “Hongeo tribe” while sacrificing the late President Chun Doo-hwan as a scapegoat.
