US lawmaker to boycott Netanyahu’s speech, labels him war criminal

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez Criticizes Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Congressional Address

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has staunchly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling him a “war criminal” with no regard for U.S. law in his recent address to Congress. Despite the invitation extended by prominent U.S. lawmakers like House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to highlight solidarity with Israel, at least 21 lawmakers are skipping Netanyahu’s speech in protest of his military operations in Gaza. Additionally, figures like VP Kamala Harris and Sen. Bernie Sanders are notably absent.

The ongoing conflict, resulting in a humanitarian crisis with thousands of deaths in Gaza, has put pressure on President Joe Biden to reassess U.S. support for Israel. Despite Biden pausing some weapon shipments to Israel, Netanyahu remains defiant. As Netanyahu prepares to address Congress, progressive voices like Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Sen. Chris Van Hollen have expressed their disdain, citing a lack of accountability from Netanyahu for the victims of the conflict.

With tensions high and political stances solidified, Netanyahu’s Congressional address continues to spark controversy and dissent among U.S. lawmakers, reflecting the complex dynamics of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
