The Paris Olympics are set to begin with a focus on unprecedented security measures, including a 6km anti-terrorism barrier along the River Seine. With over 45,000 police officers deployed, central Paris is now filled with checkpoints and metal barriers to ensure the safety of athletes and attendees.
Unlike traditional stadium ceremonies, the opening event will feature a flotilla of barges along the Seine. Measures such as a 150km no-fly zone and rooftop snipers will be in place to safeguard participants.
Security analyst Marc Hecker believes Paris is well-prepared for potential threats. He highlights the impressive deployment of security forces, including 45,000 police officers, 10,000 soldiers, and 20,000 private security officers.
Gardaí from Ireland will also be assisting in the security operation. With 56 officers deployed, they will participate in joint patrols with French police and provide assistance to English-speaking visitors.
