The United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently proposed the deployment of an international force to Gaza, under the supervision of the Palestinian Authority, to maintain law and order post-ceasefire. Lana Nusseibeh, an assistant minister for political affairs in the UAE, suggested this mission could address humanitarian needs and pave the way for governance in Gaza. The UAE is open to deploying troops as part of this initiative.
Prior to this proposal, officials from the US, Israel, and the UAE met in Abu Dhabi to discuss the future of Gaza and potential troop deployment. The UAE has outlined conditions, including an invitation from the PA, reforms within the PA, and a commitment from Israel to a two-state solution.
While the UAE seeks allies for this mission, Turkey emerges as a potential partner with its guarantorship model. However, Ankara believes talks about an international force are premature. The US is developing a plan for post-war Gaza security, possibly involving a US-backed mission led from Cairo.
Despite these efforts, significant challenges remain, including strained relations between the UAE and the PA. Israeli reluctance towards a two-state solution further complicates the situation, with the Israeli parliament recently rejecting any Palestinian state.
